A. Develop a MAGNET model to simulate wave propagation for the following situation:

B. Compare your result with the analytical solution

C. Perform a visual sensitivity analysis of your MAGNET model with respect to storage coefficient, hydraulic conductivity,  and frequency of fluctuation, and explain conceptually and numerically why 1) wave propagation in confined and unconfined aquifer is dramatically different, and why 2) aquifer response (e.g. the amplitude of head fluctuation at a given distance from the river decreases with increasing frequency of the river level fluctuations.

MAGNET/Modeling Hints:

  • Use 'Synthetic Mode' to set up your flow model ( 'Other Tools' > 'Utilities' > 'Go to Synthetic Case Area'). The default model domain for synthetic mode is identical to the domain depicted in the figure above.
  • Conceptualize the model as 1-layer aquifer.
  • Use the given inputs in Problem A to parameterize your flow model.
